Hofner Ignition Special Edition (Se) Cavern Violin Bass Sunburst

For the price, these basses are amazing if you're looking for that retro sound (and look). Obviously more expensive instruments will have more premium parts but in terms of playability and sound, this Hofner Cavern Bass is a great purchase. I wanted to find out what these played and sounded like before spending a lot more on a vintage model, but am now in no rush as this version is great. I'm using it in a home studio, so I'm more interested in the sound I get from it and although it's quirky, the sounds/tones are great. Really deep bass from the heavier strings on the lower frets and that great 'woody' McCartney sound when focusing around the middle of the fretboard. I did a tiny bit of setting up but it was really good straight out of the box. I have vintage Hofner guitars and although a modern build, this sits well alongside. I might swap out a few parts as time goes on but again, for what it is I'm in no rush as getting on with it really well – fun to play.
