Our Code Red active humbucker is a ceramic and steel bar loaded humbucker sized pickup. This is our interpretation of the most popular active humbucker of all time. We've used a more modern amplifying chip with a wider frequency range than the original. We have more harmonic content and character, but we've kept true to the original intention of the design. This pickup has harmonics jumping off the fretboard!
The Code Red is designed for the lowest of tunings and filthiest of distortions. It's goal is simple, but difficult to achieve - maximum clarity. It's a high output pickup, but it has the balance and note separation that isn't typically associated with pickups of this output class. The preamp design allows us to essentially bypass the laws of physics of a passive pickup by electronically sculpting the tone profile.
Our preamp is designed to be used at 9 volts. We've rectified the inherent issues in the preamp of traditional active pickups to ensure that ours does not suffer from the common, and highly unpleasant, issue of internal clipping.
With percussive bass response, present mids and a rounded treble, the Code Red is geared towards heavy rock and metal. It has been designed to be used in the bridge position for scalpel-like precision throughout the most intricate of pieces, but it can be used in the neck position for a mid pushed, ferocious tone.
Our active humbuckers are fully compatible with standard 3 prong female leads used with many of the other famous active pickup brands. Installation will rarely be more than plugging these pickups in where the previous ones came out!
